BRIEF BIO:

Ellis Gallagher is a native New Yorker, who creates chalk etchings of shadows of everyday, urban street objects, including mailboxes, fences, bicycles and the like. As a former graffiti writer, this 34 year old from Brooklyn was inspired one night by being robbed. Coming home late from his job at a restaurant, he noticed the shadow of a man with a machete moving behind him, as he opened the door to his apartment, the man pointed the machete at his face and said "give me your money". From that night on, he became obsessed with shadows. Soon after, on his way home from work, armed with the chalk he used for the menu board, he made his first chalk drawing of a fire hydrant. The first of thousands of chalk shadow outlines was created. Currently a contemporary street artist known as (c)ELLIS G., Gallagher's work has appeared on the cover of Time Out New York, the Daily News, the New York Times, the Village Voice, NBC, WPIX, the Hallmark Channel, RAI TV Italy, NYCTV, Chinese News Network and the streets of New York and beyond. Ellis is currently working on two books inspired by graffiti and his chalk shadow outlines.
